How to get a Provisional Licence
You begin your driving lessons you must have a Provisional Driving Licence. You can apply for this three months before your 17th Birthday by completing an application form which is available from the post office. Go to www.gov.uk for more information.
The Theory Test - What should I expect?
Part 1 - Multiple Choice
Before the test begins you will be given instructions on how the test works. If you prefer you can go through a practice session of multiple choice questions to get use to the format of the test. Then the real test will start.
Questions with several possible answers will appear and you need to select the correct answer or answers. You can flag questions that you want to come back to later in the test. You will be asked 50 questions in 57 minutes and you must achieve 43 out of 50.
Part 2 - Hazard Perception
Before you start the Hazard Perception you can choose to have a 3 minute break. You will be then shown a clip on how the hazard perception test works.
You will watch a series of 14 video clips featuring every day road scenes. In each clip there will be at least one developing hazard with one of the clips featuring two developing hazards.
To get a high score you must respond to the developing hazard in the early part of the development. The maximum score you can get on each hazard is five.
You must get 44 out of 75 in this part of the test.
You will be given your result by the centre staff & you must pass part 1 & part 2 at the same time to pass your theory test.
Practice Hint: The DSA produce a set of official discs or the Focus Driving Test Success DVD package is available from a range of retailers & is considerably cheaper! Amazon or somewhere similar is a good place usually to buy the discs!
Remember there is usually waiting time when booking a theory test. For more information or to book the Theory Test go to: www.gov.uk
What happens on my Driving Test?

During the test you will be asked to complete one of the following:

· All Weather Driving
· Out of Town Driving & Rural Roads

I felt at ease with Lorraine. My driving lessons before Train with Lorraine was like visiting the dentist! There were times when new skills were hard to grasp but Lorraine was patient explaining things to me in a way I understood.
